Installation Methods for Wooden Sound-Absorbing Panels

I. Basic Preparations

The wall surface must be leveled, free of hollow spots or loose dust/powder, and be dry and clean.

Prepare materials: Wooden acoustic panels, light-gauge steel studs (or wooden battens), self-tapping screws, mounting clips, nail-free adhesive, expansion bolts, and moisture-proof underlayment.

Tools: Tape measure, spirit level, cutting machine, electric drill, utility knife.

II. Method 1: Batten/Stud Framing Installation (Most Common and Secure)

Suitable for: Large-scale commercial projects, cinemas, conference rooms, and walls in humid environments.

Mark horizontal reference lines and vertical stud layout lines on the wall.

Secure the wooden battens (or light-gauge steel studs) to the wall using expansion bolts, spaced at intervals of 40–60 cm.

A layer of moisture-proof and sound-absorbing cotton can be laid over the surface of the framing to enhance the acoustic absorption effect.

Install the acoustic panels sequentially, starting from a corner of the wall; leave a slight expansion gap between adjacent panels.

Secure the panels using self-tapping screws driven through concealed positions on the panel edges, or use specialized mounting clips.

Finishing: Install inner and outer corner trims, as well as edge-finishing strips, to ensure a neat and aesthetically pleasing overall appearance.

Advantages: Resistant to deformation; offers superior sound insulation and absorption; suitable for long-term use.

III. Method 2: Direct Adhesion with Nail-Free Adhesive (Simple Home Renovation Method)

Suitable for: Flat and dry wall surfaces, feature walls in home interiors, and small-scale renovation projects.

Clean the wall surface thoroughly, ensuring it is flat and structurally sound.

Apply the nail-free adhesive to the back of the acoustic panels in dots or strips.

Align the panel with the wall surface, press firmly to adhere, and use a straightedge to ensure it is level.

Temporarily secure the panel in place using painter's tape for 24 hours; once the adhesive has fully cured, the tape can be removed.

Advantages: No need for framing/stud work; rapid installation; cost-effective. Disadvantages: Prone to hollow spots if the wall surface is uneven; not recommended for walls in humid environments.

IV. Method 3: Clip-Based Installation (Modular System)

Suitable for: Grooved wooden acoustic panels and comprehensive commercial wall installations.

Secure the specialized mounting clip bases to the wall surface.

Align the grooved edges of the acoustic panels with the mounting clips and snap them directly into place.

Continue assembling the panels sequentially, and finish by installing the edge-finishing strips. Pros: No exposed screws, aesthetically pleasing design, and allows for disassembly and maintenance.

V. Key Installation Considerations

Leave a 3–5 mm expansion gap between panels to prevent cracking or deformation caused by thermal expansion and contraction.

In damp areas (such as basements or ground floors), moisture-proofing measures are mandatory; the supporting framework (battens) must be suspended rather than adhered directly to the wall.

All cut edges must be sealed to prevent moisture ingress and material crumbling.

A spirit level must be used during installation to ensure proper alignment and prevent the overall structure from becoming skewed.

Polyester acoustic cotton may be inserted behind the panels to double their sound-absorption efficiency.
